Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has commissioned a 500KVA injection substation at Farawa area in Kano metropolis as part of its efforts to end estimated billing system within its franchise area.
The company also installed 60 prepaid meters for residents in the area.
Commissioning the N12m worth project, the Managing Director of the company, Dr Jamil Isyaku Gwamna said the effort was in line with the directive of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) for implementation of the metering plans by all DISCOs.
Gwamna also commissioned a state-of-the-art Customer Experience Centre at the premises of Kano East region and a sub-Technical Service Point (sub-TSP) at Farawa Layout to attend to customers’ complaints.
Dr Gwamna said the project was undertaken to ensure fairness and transparency in measuring the amount of energy consumed by customers in the area.
The managing director who commended the Regional Manager of Kano East region, Ahmed Alibaba, whose team initiated and supervised the project, charged other regional managers to introduce similar projects in their areas of jurisdiction, assuring that KEDCO was ready to fund the projects.
He called on residents of the community to safeguard the substation against vandals and cautioned them against meter bypass and energy theft.
Speaking on behalf of Farawa community, Malam Ibrahim Alfa said the entire community members were pleased with the development saying, “We are indeed grateful to KEDCO for choosing our area for this laudable project.
