Two petroleum tankers were yesterday burnt down in a fire that gutted a Kano filling station.
Ruqee Petroleum CO. Nig Ltd, located in Dorayi quarters of Gwale local government area, was razed by fire which started while fuel was being offloaded.
Describing how the fire started, a resident Aminu Isa Hasheem said he was at his house around 1am when he heard a bang and as he rushed out, he saw the filling station near his house on fire.
“The fire fighters could not stop the fire that started around 1am until around 4 am,” Hasheem said.
Our correspondent who visited the scene, gathered that the fire started when the owners of the filling station did not take the advice given by the tanker driver that the tanker should be allowed to cool down because it was overheated. A source at the filling station said the owners insisted that it must be offloaded, and that in the process of the offloading, a metal ignited the fire that engulfed the tanker.
A part of the station was badly burnt in addition to the two tankers.
When contacted, the manager of the filling station said he was busy and asked for another time
