Investigation by a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent in Kano on Friday revealed that many hawkers hide the commodity in uncompleted buildings from where they serve their customers on demand.

On Sabon Titi and Katsina roads, NAN found that the hawkers carried small quantity of the commodity in gallons while motorists stopped to patronise them. The hawkers adopted the measure in order to escape the raid of state government’s officials.

Some of the hawkers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said they employed the method in order to protect their means of livelihood.

 “While we understand the reasons advanced by the state government for banning this business, we are forced to do it to make ends meet as we have families to cater for,’’ one of them said.  

The Kano State Government recently banned the sale of petroleum products outside petrol stations, saying the ban was “to safeguard peoples lives and property.’’

The Commissioner for Information, Malam Haruna Dederi, had announced the ban at the end of one of the meetings of the State Executive Council. (NAN)
