Kano gets modern agro-commodity exchange market

An ultra-modern agricultural produce commodity exchange named ‘Gezawa market commodity exchange,’ is set for commissioning this year in Kano State.

According to one of the centre’s consultants, Mr. Bimfa Binchang, the centre will provide an enabling ground for buyers and sellers of agro-commodities to transact business without knowing each other, adding that the exchange market has established a business synergy with 16 different foreign companies across the globe.

He said the centre, which was a product of various business investors, came to life to un-luck the vast potentials of agricultural value chain in the nation.

He added that the market would also assist in eradicating the menace of middlemen in agricultural businesses that has been reducing the additional values farmers stand to gain.

“The eight hectares phase one of this centre will be completed within June and July this year, and as you can see, we have attained 80% completion of the project. However, we have estimated that, when completed, the centre will provide about 2000 direct jobs to the people of Gezawa community and other professionals. Similarly, we have identified over 1000 farmer cooperative within the state to work with and one of which is the All farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN).

Kano AFAN chairman, Alhaji Farouk Rabi’u Mudi, said the establishment of the centre would promote agro-business activities in the state and the nation in general.
