Kano state government is set to tackle the menace of drug abuse and street begging through Open Government Partnership (OGP) initiative, the Co-Chairman of the initiative, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado has said.

 

 

Rimingado, who is also the chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, said Kano state government had already embarked on a survey on drug abuse and streets begging in order to come up with comprehensive report that would help government tackled the vices.

 

 

He explained that survey when completed would come up with causes of the two social vices and how they should be addressed.

 

 

He said, “The survey will reveal the root of the problem, the roles that government is expected to play, what parents should do, the roles the general public should play and what the Qur’anic teachers are expected to do in sansitising the Almajiri system of education in the state.”

 

 

“Government is doing this to sensitise the system and at the same time build a future for the younger generation especially the pupils of Almajiri system of education. Any society that is concern about the future of its young generation will face serious problem in the future,” he said.

 

 

Rimingado said all the stakeholders would be engaged in the fight against the two vices, noting that “we already have the laws that are meant for operating Almajiri system of education on ground, our major problem is implementation. With this kind of move that intends to carry all stakeholders along, a tremendous success will be achieved at the end of the exercise.

 

 

“The earlier all the concerned stakeholders come together and face the problem squarely, the better, otherwise, anytime the time bomb we are sitting explodes, it will consume all of us.”
