The Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Service has called on Kano State Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to encourage massive pigeon pea production for the state farmers to meet the $100 billion market in India.

The agency stated this recently when its management visited the governor at the Aminu Kano Lodge, Abuja. The visit was in recognition of Kano State’s efforts at harnessing irrigation management in agro-production for export as well as to discuss ways to enable farmers in the state to key into the $100bn pigeon pea Indian export deal recently negotiated with the Nigerian government.

 

Dr. Vincent Isegbe, coordinating director of NAQS, also urged the governor to reposition the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to enhance exportation of agricultural commodities. 

 

Responding, the governor assured that they “Will work out the details of the discussion with my agricultural commissioner, Dr Nasiru Gawuna, who has been collaborating with NAQS.” “I commend this team for strengthening agro-production to meet international market standard.”
