The Kano State Government will on Monday, inaugurate the newly reconstituted Shuurah Council at the Government House, Kano, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf.

The council, according to the state government, is designed to strengthen participatory governance, inclusiveness, and transparency in decision-making processes across the state.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government said the Shuurah Council will serve as an advisory body, offering informed guidance on policies and programmes that align with the administration’s transformation agenda and sustainable development goals. Governor Yusuf, who is widely known for his commitment to people-oriented governance, is expected to use the occasion to outline the objectives and mandate of the council.

He will also reaffirm his administration’s dedication to accountability, equity, and citizens’ participation in governance.

“The establishment of the Shuurah Council represents a significant step in strengthening participatory governance, inclusiveness, and transparency in decision-making,” the statement read.

“The Council is expected to serve as an advisory body to the State Government, providing informed guidance on policies and programmes that will continue to drive the transformation agenda and promote sustainable development in the state.”

The statement added that the council is composed of “highly respected personalities, representing critical stakeholder constituencies, with a view to ensuring balanced and adequate representation across all social strata of the Kano community.”

All members of the council, along with invited guests, have been urged to attend the inauguration ceremony, which the government described as “another important stride in consolidating the democratic ideals of citizens’ participation in governance and strengthening institutions for enhanced service delivery.”

The Shuurah Council is expected to play a strategic role in shaping policy direction and fostering inclusive dialogue between the government and the people of Kano State.
