Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalising tertiary education through massive infrastructure upgrades and expansion of access to technical and vocational training across the state.
The governor disclosed this during an unscheduled visit to the Kano State College of Education and Preliminary Studies (KASCEPS), where he announced plans for a comprehensive rehabilitation of the institution to enhance its academic and infrastructural standards.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf said the exercise will involve the renovation of classrooms, the auditorium, laboratories, and other essential facilities, with consideration for the construction of hostels to accommodate boarding students.
In a related development, Governor Yusuf has also reiterated his administration’s resolve to establish a Polytechnic in Gaya Local Government Area, as part of deliberate efforts to expand access to technical and vocational education in line with the state’s manpower development agenda.
Speaking through the same spokesperson at the flag-off of the second batch of the 1,001 Foreign and Domestic Postgraduate Scholarship Programme, the governor said the planned Gaya Polytechnic is a strategic step toward promoting skills acquisition, innovation and entrepreneurship.
According to him, the institution will serve as a hub for youth empowerment by equipping young people from Gaya and neighbouring communities with quality technical education and practical training to prepare them for employment and self-reliance.
He added that the polytechnic will also function as a skills enhancement centre for artisans and craftsmen, enabling them to formalise their expertise and contribute to the state’s socio-economic advancement.
