Kano State government has said it will train 500 nurses on the treatment and maintenance of diabetic patients in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, disclosed this at a news conference organised to celebrate the World Diabetes Day, 2020.
The commissioner said the training was aimed at raising awareness on the crucial role that nurses play in supporting people with diabetes, adding that education is very vital to equip nurses with the necessary skills.
“We have been partnering with the diabetes associations and recently we are partnering with the International Limb Salvage Foundation (USA) on the management of Diabetic Foot Syndrome which is one of the major problems. The ministry has also formed the Kano State Diabetic Foot Working Group,” the commissioner said.
He added that the theme of this year’s WDD is ‘The Nurses and Diabetes’, and it focuses more on caring for amputation diabetics which is through knowledge and awareness.
