Kano and Kaduna Distribution Companies (DisCos) said they have reverted to the old electricity tariff after an order from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) suspending the September 1 tariff increase order for two weeks since Monday.
Spokesman of Kano DisCo, Ibrahim Sani Shawai, said the NERC order followed the joint communiqué issued by the Federal Government and the labour unions, to allow for further consultations.

“The Management of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has complied in full with the directive. The 14-day suspension of the tariff is to take place from September 28 to October 11, 2020.”
He said prepaid customers who purchased electricity tokens will receive value based on the old tariff while post-paid customers will see the value of the old tariff reflected on their next bill.
On his part, the Head of Corporate Communication at Kaduna Electric, Abdulazeez Abdullahi, said the DisCo has complied with the NERC order.
“The Management of Kaduna Electric wishes to inform its customers and the general public that it has fully complied with the directive.
“Pre-paid customers who purchase electricity tokens from today will therefore see the value of the old tariff reflected in their tokens while postpaid customers will also see the old tariff reflected on their next bill”.
The DisCo was hopeful that the technical committee set up to look into how the Service Based Tariff (SBT) was arrived at will conclude its assignment on schedule and allow for the new tariff to be implemented.
