Ungogo Local Government Council, in Kano State has allocated 18 plots of land to some leprosy patients in a new layout mapped out by the authorities.

The council said this is sequel to the complaint by residents of Yadakunya, where the leprosy hospital is situated that they may contract the disease.

The patients were relocated to Zaura Kadage community.

The Chairman of Ungogo LGC, Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat, said 18 plots of land were distributed to the leprosy patients free of charge.

Speaking shortly after handing the affected leprosy patients their land ownership papers, Ramat said the gesture became necessary to address the complaints of residents in Yadakunya.

He explained that infrastructural facilities such as electricity and borehole would also be provided in the layout to ease the challenges of the patients.

Commenting on the development, the Sarkin Kutare in Kano, Malam Isiyaku Muhammad, commended the council chairman for what he described as a kind gesture, saying over 16 families benefited from the free plots of land.

One of the beneficiaries, Nafi’u Isiyaku, said before the development, leprosy patients stayed in stalk structures which gave them serious concern.
