Ungogo Local Government Council of Kano State has empowered no fewer than 1,405 women and people with disability, as well as distributed 12 buses and 20 motorcycles to security agencies and party stalwarts in the area.
The mega empowerment, which distribution ceremony had in attendance the wife of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Hajiya Hafsat, according to the local government Chairman, Abdullahi Garba Ramat, is aimed at making the beneficiaries self-reliant.
Those empowered included 300 women trained in fish farming, 200 trained on hand sanitiser and jewellery making who received materials worth N30,000 each. Also, 500 petty businesses and 100 teachers of married women in Islamiyya schools were given N10,000 each.
Others were 205 women selected from all the ballot boxes of the local government to get N20,000 each, and 100 people with disabilities, each awarded with N10,000.
The council equally donated four buses, one for each of the four divisional police offices in the area, one bus for each of the vigilante groups, civil defence, Hisbah, SSS, APC party secretariat, council secretariat, Gandujiyya Vanguard and the PHC in the area.
