Chairman of the Nigeria Indigenous Contractors, Kano State Branch, Auduwa Maitangaran who stated this while addressing newsmen at the NUJ secretariat urged the state governor, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to offset the debt before May 29 when his tenure ends.
He said they decided to go to the press in view of their inability to meet the governor to table their grievances to him.
“We have written more than 30 letters for us to see the governor to plead with him on the payment of our money,” he said.
He said they decided to collate all the debts owed local contractors as Kwankwaso who he said gave them the contracts winds up his administration.
“From our members, we have compiled a total of N60 billion and from indications we have more than this amount as some of our members are yet to submit theirs,” he added.
Reacting to the claim by the contractors, Kwankwaso wondered how they came about the figure, saying his administration has been meeting its financial obligations regularly.
“I’m the only governor that is still working up till today as you can see our contractors are still on sites and works are still ongoing.  I don’t know how they came about the figure but I know we have been paying our contractors regularly, as they work, we pay them,” he said.
