A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Kano for threatening to kidnap his father’s friend if the would-be-victim does not pay him N100 million.

The suspect, identified by the police as Isah Musa of Makadi village in Garki LGA of the state, had also threatened his victim on the phone that if he does not pay the “ransom”, he would also kidnap one of his children.

The police spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa told City & Crime that the command received the report from the victim on July 30 that he received a phone call communicating the threat and that based on directives of DCP Abubakar Zubairu, who is in charge of the command pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner of police, operatives of the command swung into action leading to the arrest of Musa.

He said the team of detectives led by SP Aliyu Muhammad Auwal, O/C Anti-Kidnapping Squad based on credible intelligence and sustained follow-up, traced and arrested the suspect, who is of the same address as the complainant.

‘’On preliminary investigation, the suspect disclosed that the victim is his neighbour and a friend of his father. He conspired with his friend who lives far outside the state to be communicating on his behalf. They demanded the sum of N100m but later settled at N2m. Case will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation,” he said.

The suspect, in his confessional statement to the police and made available to City & Crime. said the victim had always been close to his family and he just attempted to see if the plot will work to get some money.
