The Kano state chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has appealed to the state gover­nor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Gan­duje to consider the June sala­ries earlier paid to the state civil servants during Sallah period as salary advance payable in three months.

This call was contained in a statement issued yesterday which was jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of the NLC, Comrades Kabiru Ado Minjibir and Auwal Mudi Yaka­sai respectively.

The congress advocated that advance salaries should be deducted instalmentally from the monthly salaries of the civil servants in June, July and August to enable them meet up with their individual financial obli­gations.

“We are sincerely apprecia­tive to the governor for the pay­ment of June salary and pension before the Sallah celebrations. We appeal to him to consider it as salary/pension advance pay­able in three months as was done in sokoto, Kebbi and other states.

The congress expressed con­cern over the outstanding pay­ment of gratuity to retired civil servants.

The statement said the devel­opment was creating anxiety among civil servants who were on the verge of retirement.

The congress therefore appealed to the governor to do anything possible to address the long standing issue.
