Speaking during the sendoff ceremony of the benefiting students, the state governor, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, said the education of 250 students of the state abroad would gulp N1,174,209,550.
Giving the breakdown of the scholarship, he said the studies of 191 students in India, has gulped N950,189,000.
“The scholarship of 23 students to China N84, 967,700; two students in Malaysia N3,945,700; and 34 students in Turkey N1, 350,471,150. On the whole, we are spending a total of N1,174, 209,550,” he said.
Kwankwaso also said that second batch of 181 young men and women for a one-year top-up course leading to award of degree at Kampala University, Uganda cost N362 million.
“In respect of the above expenditure, our government is spending well over N2 million for each of the students. All together our government has committed a total of N362, 432,590 for training of the 181 students,” he said.
The governor also said arrangements have been concluded to send another batch of 100 undergraduate students to Bells University, Ota in Ogun State at a total cost of about N150 million.
