The Kano State Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has ordered for compulsory HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and hepatitis tests for the staff of bakeries, restaurants, eateries and other food processing businesses in the state.

The Acting Managing Director of the council, Baffa Babba Danagundi stated that the move was geared towards ridding Kano of contaminated consumables capable of devastating public health.

Danagundi noted that any food vendor positive with any of the infections would be compelled to leave to safeguard public health.

He disclosed that the health checking operation, to take records of all operators in the food distribution and production industry, would be captured in March.

Danagundi, who emphasised that the registration was free of charge, insisted that the Council would not hesitate to shut down any outlet that compromised standard and regulations.
