The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has distanced itself from recent defections to the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticising former members of the party, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, for aligning with the coalition.

Atiku, the PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, came third in Kano with 131,716 votes, behind Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of the NNPP and President Bola Tinubu of the APC. This marked a significant drop from the 391,593 votes he secured in the state during the 2019 election.

Speaking yesterday in Kano during a press briefing, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, the state chairman of the PDP,  described the coalition being formed by some breakaway members under the ADC as inconsequential, maintaining that the PDP in Kano remains strong and united.

“The coalition does not reflect the position or interests of the PDP in Kano. We are united, focused, and committed to quality leadership and delivering results for the people,” he said.

“We remain absolutely loyal to the National Executive Committee (NEC) and wish to assure the national leadership that Kano PDP is firmly united and focused,” he added.

Kibiya also urged the public, particularly young people, to register with the PDP, which he described as the most viable political platform for the future of Kano State and Nigeria.
