The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano state, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf has promised to operate an all inclusive government if elected in the forthcoming general election.

Yusuf made the pledge when he received leadership of the Joint Association of People with Disability (PWDs) who paid him courtesy visit in his campaign secretariat at Lugard House, Kano, a statement signed by Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, stated.

The gubernatorial candidate said good governance had been instrumental in curtailing the challenges of people living with disabilities and their immediate families to make them more productive in the society.

He said, “I promised you an all inclusive leadership to reposition the state under a drive to social protection through implementation of free education with school feeding, uniform and instructional materials, providing free basic healthcare services, transportation equipment and strengthening anti-begging policy.”

He said the United Nations in its 2006 convention on the rights of persons living with disabilities adopt to change the attitude and approach to persons with disabilities, as such Kano state would not be left behind in pursuing the new perception.

“We must try our best to change the attitude of our people from viewing persons with disabilities as objects of charity to subjects with rights who are capable of claiming those rights and make decisions for their lives based on free and informed consent,” he said.

Earlier, Chairman of the association, Engineer Musa Muhammad Shaga expressed displeasure on intentional exclusion of people with disabilities in the process of policy formulation and implementation by the Kano state government.
