Still licking their wounds, Kano Pillars have blamed their early exit in this year’s CAF Confederations Cup on the failure of the League Management Company, LMC, to reopen the domestic league even as the ban on contact sports has been lifted by the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19.

On Saturday, visiting Jaraaf FC of Senegal forced the former Nigerian champions to 0-0 in the return leg of the Confederation Cup played at the Ahmadu Bello stadium in Kaduna to proceed to the first round on 3-1 aggregate.

In a statement issued yesterday, the Media Officer of the club, Alhaji Rilwanu Idris Malikawa described the recent failure of Kano Pillars as a shocker to the management, technical crew and players of the team.

He said the early exits of both Kano Pillars and Plateau United in the continent is an indication that there is a problem somewhere in the Nigerian league.

Malikawa, therefore, called on football administrators and other critical stakeholders to do the needful in order to save the game of football in the country.

“The Situation brought about by COVID-19 affected our football but the issue is global. Yet, some countries have managed it and restarted their leagues for the survival of their football. So let us borrow a leaf from them.

“The LMC chairman, Alhaji Shehu Dikko who watched the last 35 minutes of the game refused to talk to journalists on the situation that Pillars and Plateau United have found themselves.”

Meanwhile, a former Director of Sports in Katsina State, Alhaji Aliyu Kofar-Soro has called for the resignation of the NFF president, Amaju Pinnick following the poor performances of Pillars and Plateau United.

He told Daily Trust yesterday that the NFF president has failed to give direction to Nigerian football particularly the domestic league.

“Most of us are disappointed and embarrassed by what is happening. This show of shame shouldn’t be allowed to continue.

“I call on Amaju Pinnick to give way for someone with fresh and pragmatic ideas to lead Nigerian football. They are killing Nigerian football but everyone is already discussing elections.

“If we remain silent in the face of this colossal failure, more harm will befall Nigerian football,” said Kofar-Soro.
