Kano pledges to sustain educational development initiatives

Kano state government has promised to partner with any non-governmental organization towards development of educational sector in the state.

Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Malam Danlami Garba made the commitment during Girls Opportunity for Advancing Literacy 2 (GOAL2) dissemination meeting organized by Mercy Corps Nigeria. 

Garba said the state government would give maximum support and ensure sustainability of the Mercy Corps projects on education in the state.

“The initiative is in-line with the state vision for education and also associated with the aspirations of the Sustainable Development Goals of addressing challenges of poverty and promotion of quality education,” he said.

In her address, GOAL 2 Programme Manager, Ms Ether Musa said the event was aimed at exploring avenues at which the state government and the programme would work together in ensuring that girls have knowledge of financial literacy and life skills that includes vocational choices.

“At the end of the 18 months course about 536 girls from junior and senior secondary schools in the state are now able to manage their resources and can make decision on their carrier choices,” she said.
