This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Nasir Yusif Gawuna, when he received the farmer’s association officials in his office.
He said the state government decided to start something on its own toward ensuring that farmers in the state directly benefit from the government, adding that the government is singlehandedly embarking on the purchase and distribution of the fertilizer which will be distributed to farmers at subsidised price.
Gawuna added that considering the importance attached to agriculture, the state executive council at its first sitting gave the approval, adding that already supply has since commenced, while the state governor will officially launch the sales soon.
“However, in order to ensure the fertilizer gets to farmers directly, the sales would be done through the already existing channels adopted by the federal government’s GES mobile phones phenomena,” he stated.
Similarly, the fertiliser acquired at N5,500 will be sold to farmers at N3,500 making each farmer to benefit a N2,000 subsidy.
