The member representing Dala Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Aliyu Sani Madakin Gini, has defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Madakin Gini, who is the Deputy Minority Leader of the House, announced his defection in a letter dated March 10, 2026, addressed to the chairman of the NNPP in Yalwa Ward of Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.

In the letter, the lawmaker said his decision followed consultations with his political associates and supporters across Kano State, particularly in the 12 wards that make up Dala Federal Constituency.

He said the move was not taken lightly considering his commitment to the party and the Kwankwasiyya political movement.

The lawmaker, however, cited internal divisions within the party as one of the reasons for his decision.

He said the party has become factionalised into two camps, with one faction loyal to Boniface Aniebonam and another to former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Madakin Gini said the parallel leadership structures from ward to national levels informed his decision to withdraw his membership.

Madakin Gini had earlier distanced himself from the Kwankwasiyya movement and stopped wearing the red cap commonly associated with supporters of the group.
