Kano State government has revealed that it has concluded all arrangements to distribute to farmers 484 trucks of fertilizers amounting to 290,400 bags during the 2015 wet-season at a discount rate of N3,500 per bag.
This was disclosed by the state’s Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Yusuf Nasiru Gawuna, during a recent press conference held at the ministry’s headquarters.
According to the commissioner, the state government has already procured the fertilizer which will be sold to farmer at N3,500 as against the market price of N5,600, adding that the state government is given out subsidy of N2,100 to each farmer.
He added that the delay in the commencement of the distribution was due to some modalities that were yet to be finalized on the joint project of fertilizer distribution between state’ and federal government under the Growth Enhancement Scheme (GES). He also stated that, it is in view of this that the state government decided to take up the issue and directly distribute fertilizer to its farmers.
According to him 484 collection centers are going to be used as against the 85 centers used by GES to enable quick access to fertilizer by the farmers during this wet-season.
