Kano State government has inaugurated a 22-man committee to screen and verify the last minute recruitment exercise of over 10,800 personnel into the state civil service by the previous administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. 

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi while inaugurating the committee in his office Wednesday evening said, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf led administration has raised question marks on the exercise hence the need to look into it.

 Recall that the state government had suspended payment of salaries to the over 8,000 civil servants after it raised questions into their mode of employment and promised to set up a committee to review their recruitment.

 The SSG said the current government viewed the recruitment as an anomaly and resolved to set up the committee to study and review the entire process with a view to determining whether or not the employment process was informed by the express manpower need and the requirement of the affected MDA or just based on certain primordial considerations suggesting nepotism as alleged.

 “Other mandates assigned to the committee include compiling the list of already employed staff as well as establishing the financial implications on state finances and citing whether budgetary provisions were adhered to.

 “The committee is also expected to identify those already enlisted into the state payroll sequel to their recruitment and those that are yet to receive appointment letters following the storage of the exercise by the present administration,” he said, adding that the committee has two weeks to submit its report.

 On his part, a former Head of Civil Service in the state, Umar Shehu Minjibir, who is the chairman of the committee assured the government of doing due diligence.
