Kano stood still Friday as the remains of a popular Islamic cleric, Dr Ahmad Ibrahim (BUK), were laid to rest at the Dandolo Cemetery in Gwale Local Government Area of Kano Metropolis.
Thousands of Muslims from within and outside Kano attended the funeral and burial prayers led by the Chief Imam of Bayero University Kano (BUK), Sheikh Abubakar Jibril.

Dr Ahmad, known by many as Dr Bamba, died at the age of 82 on Friday at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH) after a brief illness.
Among the dignitaries that attended the funeral were the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Dr Nasir Yusuf Gawuna; the Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero; Emir of Bichi, Nasiru Ado Bayero; and Kano Central Senator, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau Islamic clerics, religious leaders, students and representatives from the academia.
The cleric, who left behind 30 children and wives, spent the whole of his life preaching Islam and was known for the translation of the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Daily Trust Saturday reports that the crowd at the funeral delayed the arrival of the corpse to the cemetery.
Ganduje, others mourn
Meanwhile, the Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has mourned the late cleric, describing his death as a great loss of a strong peace maker and a compendium of Hadith knowledge.
Gov Ganduje, in a statement by his spokesman, Abba Anwar, said the late cleric was a sound scholar with deep sense of ingenuity and originality in his teaching of the sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Similarly, the Kano State House of Assembly has mourned the late scholar, describing his death as a great loss to the global Islamic community.
Speaker of the house, Hamisu Chidari, disclosed this in a statement signed by the spokesman of the house, Uba Abdullahi.
