All business and government activities have been grounded in Kano Tuesday as All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari took his campaign to the ancient city.
The city centre was filled up with people as well as all major roads in the city awaiting the arrival of Buhari who flew to the city alongside leaders of the party.
The Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofar Mata was full to the brim as early as 10am by APC supporters waiting for their flag-bearer.
The crowd thronged the Malam Aminu International Airport in the afternoon, brandishing his posters and singing his political songs.
Due to the uncontrolled crowd, Buhari didn’t performed his scheduled functions such as the commissioning of the multi-billion fly-over bridge in Kofar Nasarawa constructed by Kano Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Daily Trust observed that when Buhari went to the fly-over bridge, he couldn’t even come out from his vehicle because of the surging crowd.
The opposition presidential candidate only passed through the new bridge and went straight to the Emir’s palace.
Even at the emir’s palace the crowd was too much and overwhelming which prevented Buhari from alighting from his vehicle.
Our reporter observed that only APC national leader Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and one other party chieftain got access into the palace where they met the emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Thereafter, Buhari’s convoy meandered its way into the stadium. It took the convoy more than 15 minutes before security and other volunteers paved way for him to get into the place reserved for the VIPs.
Most of the delegations that included Tinubu, Governors Rotimi Amaechi, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, House of Representatives Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal were literally sneaked into the VIP seats.
It took another 10 minutes before Buhari and his host Governor Kwankwaso and other party chieftains managed to get to the podium crowded by supporters.
While at the podium, Buhari only spoke for less than five minutes, reiterating his commitment to end insecurity, corruption and create employment opportunities by reviving industries in the state.
The APC presidential which comprises the party’s national chairman John Oyegun, Buhari’s running mate Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, former Governors Bukola Saraki and Segun Oni, among others proceeded to Jigawa state
