The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has organized a one-day stakeholders meeting on strategies to handle aged intending pilgrims in subsequent Hajj exercise.
Executive Secretary of the board, Alhaji Abba Yakubu said the meeting was organized in view of the difficulties faced by officials in handling aged pilgrims and those who due to illness could not perform the Hajj rituals unaided.
He said the meeting which comprises Islamic scholars and medical doctors among others would look into the possibility of making a policy that elderly pilgrims must be accompanied or else be stopped from travelling altogether.
“Such pilgrims used to become a burden on our officials during pilgrimage because sometimes Hajj officers have to neglect other pilgrims and concentrate on such pilgrims.
“Henceforth those who have the means, let them sponsor their parents to Hajj and give them all the support they need to undertake the trip by, for instance, accompanying them or paying for another person to travel with them, see to their well-being and needs during the pilgrimage,” he said.
