A total of 245 students under sponsorship of Kano state government at Igbinedion University Okada, Edo state, have cried out for assistance to enable them complete their studies.
They called on the state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje to come to their aid by offsetting their tuition fees and scholarship allowances respectively.
The students, some of whom were in their final year, complained over severe hardship occasioned by prolonged neglect by the Kano state government.
They said they were denied access to their first semester’s results, even as the university management had threatened to bar them from sitting for their final exams because their tuitions fees had not been settled.
‘’Seventy four (74) of us have less than 30 days to graduate but certainly we may not, because the school authority has made it clear to us that it won’t let us to sit for the final examination (second semester). Even the result of our last exam (first semester) was not given to us,’’ one of the students said.
The student who preferred anonymity for fear of victimization, said their feeding allowances had not been paid for the past two years, adding that majority of them had resorted to menial jobs for upkeep.
