This was contained in a statement from the State Universal Basic Education Board signed by Amina Umar, Deputy Director Communication and Knowledge Management, in reaction to a recent publication attributed to a primary school teacher, Muhammad Lawal Musa, advising government on how to improve primary school education in the state.
The statement said that contrary to the teacher’s claim, over 16,000 teachers and 5,345 head teachers are currently undergoing training sponsored jointly by Kano State government and the Education Sector Support Programme in Nigeria (ESSPIN).
“From inception, government has embarked on the construction of 1,856 Kwankwassiyya story classroom blocks with a provision of 38, 9783 chairs and tables and 6,396 teachers’ furniture,” the statement said.
It said that government has also promoted 32,806 teaching and non-teaching staff, adding that the government used to spend over N275m monthly as cost of implementation of the promotion.
The statement added that this was in addition to the implementation of 27% TSS salary and N18, 000.00 minimum wages for all teachers since January 2012.
“Government has also constructed over 400 houses for teachers in rural areas. N200m has been disbursed to 2, 000 teachers as “interest free” vehicle loan”, the statement concluded.
