A 38-year-old teacher has been arrested in Kano for allegedly defiling one of his students while the school proprietor was also arrested for allegedly helping the teacher to escape arrest.

The accused persons have been docked before a magistrates’ court.

The court was told that the teacher, Sukairaj Kabir from Rimin Auzunawa Quarters of Kano, was arrested following a report at the Rijiyar Zaki Police Station by one Bashir Balarabe.

Balarabe was said to have alleged that between 2018 and 2021, the accused teacher has been sexually assaulting his 15-year-old daughter (name withheld) who happens to be his student.

According to the First Information Report, the accused teacher has consistently lured the victim into a classroom located at Garu Shira’i Islamiyya School, Tudun Yola, and had carnal knowledge of her.

“It has been going on since she was 12, and now 15 years old, knowing quite well that she is of unsound mind,” the court was told.

At the time of his arrest, the police understood that there was negligence and full awareness of the school proprietor which caused the child to be assaulted.

The proprietor, Aminu Sa’idu, 52, from Rijiyar Lemu Quarters, was also remanded for aiding, abetting, and screening the accused to escape police arrest.

The accused persons, however, denied the allegations when the case was presented by a chief state counsel, Asmau Ado Sabi’u, and also demanded bail through their lawyer, Barrister Yusuf Yusuf.

The judge, Justice Mustapha Datti, thereafter granted them bail with N100,000 bail bond as well as presenting their ward head as surety. The case was then adjourned to March 25.
