Kano teachers groan over unpaid salary

Some teachers under Kano State Teachers Service Board (KTSB) have called on the state government to as a matter of urgency pay their eight months salary arrears.

The affected teachers, who visited Daily Trust Kano regional office, said they had been suffering in silence due to nonpayment of their outstanding salaries.

Leader of the aggrieved teachers, who don’t want his name in print, said the state Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had promised to pay them in installment but two months after, the promise had not been fulfilled.

“We have heard that government has approved the money but the state ministry of finance refused to release the money. We hope the governor will intervene and settle the matter,” he said.

He said the affected teachers would continue to follow legitimate ways until government offset their unpaid salaries, saying members of their families were affected negatively.

“We are the bread winners of our respective families and the delay in payment of our salaries is affecting us negatively. We are appealing to Kano state government to come to our aid by offsetting the outstanding salaries,” he said.
