Murja Ibrahimi Kunya, a popular Kano Tiktoker, has pleaded guilty to one count amended charge of naira abuse preferred against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court, Kano, had earlier fixed May 20 for conviction and sentencing of the Tiktoker having previously pleaded guilty to the charge but the EFCC applied to amend the charge which the court granted.

The amended charge reads: “That you Murja Ibrahimi Kunya on the 28/12/23 at Tahir Guests Palace Hotel while dancing in one of the rooms, tempered with naira by spraying and dancing on it contrary to Section 21(1) of the CBN Act, 2007.”

EFCC’s counsel, Musa Isa, asked the court to convict and sentence Murja having pleaded guilty to the charge.

He tendered as exhibits the amended charge dated 9/05/ 25, a video recording of Murja, spraying and dancing on naira notes and her volunteer statement dated 26/01/25.

Her counsel, Abubakar Saka, did not object to any of the exhibits being tendered.

Justice Amobeda held that conviction and judgement would be delivered at a later date because the matter is attracting interests, noting that the defendant has shown remorse and the prosecution should be part of the reformatory process.

The judge also recommends to the EFCC to utilise her brain as a content creator with over two million followers to be a brand ambassador to lead the campaign against naira abuse instead of condemning her to prison.

Murja was arraigned in March this year by the EFCC and she pleaded guilty to the one count charge of naira abuse.

The trial judge adjourned the matter till May 28 for conviction and sentence, allowing the defendant to enjoy administrative bail in the hands of her lawyer.
