The Kano State Government is set to establish a board for traditional and alternative medicine.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje revealed this while receiving a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Health led by the Director of Traditional, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (TCAM), Pharmacist Zainab Ujudud Sharif.

Represented by his Deputy, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the governor also said the state government would also establish a TCAM department at the Ministry of Health as part of effort of standardising traditional medicine practice, noting that the move was to eradicate quacks from traditional medicine practice.

He, therefore, directed the delegation to bring a document which he would use to forward a memo to the State Executive Council (SEC) on establishing the board and the TCAM department.

The governor added that Kano was endowed with arable land which made it easy to cultivate almost everything that was medicinal such as ginger, clove, onion and garlic.

In a statement, spokesman of the deputy governor, Hassan Musa Fagge, said Ganduje assured the delegation of continued partnership to achieve the set objective of promoting and regulating traditional and alternative medicine.

On her part, Pharmacist Sharif said the purpose of the visit was to encourage the state government to enact a law for the establishment of a board and a department at the Ministry of Health for TCAM due to its importance to human life.
