Kano state government has promised to increase the accommodation capacity of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp in Karaye local government area of the state from 2,500 to 5,000.

The state Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, made the disclosure at the closing ceremony of a three-week orientation of Batch ‘A’ corps members.

Represented by the state Commissioner of Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, Ganduje said arrangements had been concluded for the upgrade of the NYSC camp.

He said, “The state government has awarded contract for the upgrade of all the facilities in the camp and renovation of both male and female hostels.’

He assured the corps members of their security and appealed to them to cooperate with their host communities, adding that the state government was doing its best to make their stay in the state a memorable one.

“The state government has resuscitated and increased allowances given to corps members to N5,000 monthly in its agencies, parastatals and in all the 44 local government areas,’’ he added.

Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Kano, Alhaji Ladan Baba, commended the state government for the upgrade, saying the camp had facilities and enough land to accommodate more than 5, 000 corps members.
