Kano to fight pneumonia, diarrhea

Kano state government has reiterated its commitment to fight pneumonia, diarrhea and other child killer diseases in the state.
The Director Pharmaceutical Services Kano State Ministry of Health, Pharmacist Abdullahi Umar Madaki made this known when the state Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria-Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health (PSN-PACFah) paid him advocacy visit.
The PSN-PACFah is a partnership project between the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) aimed at advocacy in child and family health.
Madaki said the state was committed in providing access to healthcare services from the primary to tertiary level for all its citizens.
“The state government gives priority to the health sector as it has increased its budgetary allocation in this year’s budget,” he said.
Madaki added that the government would embark on public awareness campaign to enlighten people in the state on child killer diseases.
Speaking earlier the leader of the delegation Musa Balarabe Musa said they were in his office to encourage the state government towards fighting child killer diseases, especially pneumonia and diarrhea.
“The rate of children with pneumonia and diarrhea diseases is becoming higher in the state. This is alarming and require urgent intervention from the government and all stakeholders, so that mortality rate among children can be reduced”.
Musa urged the government to adopt the use of Amoxicillin DT and ORS ZINC as first treatment guidelines for pneumonia and diarrhea diseases.
“There is need for the state government to provide more fund to the health sector so that drugs for treating pneumonia and diarrhea can be available in all health facilities across the state,” he said.
