Kano to initiate bill on free maternal health

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Malam Tajuddeen Gambo, while receiving the USAID team on health, population and nutrition in his office.

Gambo stated that the bill is part of efforts by the state government to provide good health care delivery to its citizens most especially the two most vulnerable groups, women and children.

He added that the state government has planned to establish State Primary Healthcare Development Agency. “The agency will be responsible for providing healthcare services at local government levels with a view to enhance healthcare delivery in the state,” he said.

Gambo acknowledged contributions made by USAID to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity in the state through the provision of facilities and manpower in about 22 health facilities.

Earlier in her speech, the team leader, Mrs Sharon Epstein, said the access program that was earlier implemented to tackle emergency and obstetric care has transited to maternal child integrated programme to cover other reproductive healthcare areas.
