Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State said his administration has commissioned a consultant to review the state master plan that was in use since 1943.
The governor said this at the launching of Business Investment Climate (BIC), a project funded by European Union and Department of International Development, to improve the business and investment environment through the improvement and implementation of regulatory frameworks in business licensing reform, land administration reform and establishing a competition framework in Nigeria.
He said review of the current master plan which was conceived in 1943 become necessary due to expansion of the state over the years which distorted the original master plan.
Dr. Ganduje commended EU and DFID for the BIC project which he said was a new initiative that could effectively help in reforming land administration and increase revenue generation for the state.
Earlier, head of the EU’s Head of Section on Economic Governance and Trade Cooperation to Nigeria, Mr Juan Casla, said EU has earmarked the sum of €512m to improve the provision of electricity, healthcare delivery system, promotion and protection of the rule of law, governance and democracy in Nigeria.
He said the BIC is one of the components of the EU’s Nigeria Competitiveness Support Programme (NCSP), which has been designed to support the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment and other relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
Mr. Casla added that the Kano state would be given special consideration to create more opportunities in business climate in the state because of the strategic economic position of the state in the country.
