The Kano State government has approved the release of N275. 7 million  as payment of tuition fees and accommodation for the 135 female students from the state who are studying at Mansoura University, Egypt.
The state’s Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Muhammad Garba, who stated this while briefing newsmen yesterday, said the students were sponsored by the state government to study Nursing.
He said the approval of the fund is a testimony that the Ganduje-led administration was committed to the welfare of Kano students.
“Contrary to speculations, the present administration is committed to the welfare of Kano students that are studying in various universities and colleges across the globe under government scholarship,” he said.
The commissioner assured that government will continue to assist its students studying aboard.
Garba also said the council approved money for return tickets for the 217 Kano students, who will be graduating from four institutions in India later in the month.
He added that N43.3 million was approved for addressing erosion problems in Dugurawa, Tattarawa and Jalli villages in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of the state.
He further stated that N10.7 million was approved to the state Ministry of Women Affairs for its empowerment programme.
‘‘The sum of N28 million was also approved for the rehabilitation of drainages at Kantin-Kwari market with a view to addressing the problems of flood and N2.4 million for children in reformatory homes’’, he said.
He also explained that following adoption of the single account system, the council has directed all government  revenue generation agencies to liaise with the Ministry of Finance, to guide them on how to go about it.
