During the flag off of the training programme,the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr Baraka Sani, stated that the collaboration between the state and the federal government is in fulfilment of the promise made by the Minister for Agriculture, Dr Akinwumi Adesina, during a visit to the institute some months ago.
She added that in the training programme,the federal government has sponsored 140 women from other 19 northern states,while Kano state government sponsored 400 women from the state. The commissioner also revealed that each participant will be given a takeoff package that includes juvenile fish, fish feed, drugs and other incentives.
Dr. Baraka said more collaboration is underway to train youth in poultry and livestock in the state government’s newly established six capacity building agricultural institutes under the ministry.
The representative of Federal Ministry of Agriculture at the occasion and Director Gender, Hajiya Karimatu Babangida, commended Kano State government for its youth empowerment programmes.
She said the gesture will assist in reducing the amount of money spent by Nigerians in importing fish, adding that Nigeria is spending N90billion on importing fish annually to meet its  three million metric tons requirement,as only 700metric tons are produced in the country.
