Kano Turf Club has held a two-week horse racing tournament in commemoration of the coronation of all the five emirs in Kano State.
The coronation derby was staged in honour of the emirs of Kano, Rano, Bichi, Gaya and Karaye.
The well attended event saw seasoned and professional racers from within and outside Nigeria competing in honour of the traditional rulers.
Speaking at the closing ceremony at Kano Race Course, Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was represented by one of his special advisers, Alhaji Ibrahim Mu’azzam Madaki, commend the organisers of the tournament and wished all participants safe journey back to their respective destinations.
At the end of the tournament, Habib Imam Buhari with the horse named Moon won the Emir of Kano Cup (Kano da kewaye) with cash prize of N500,000 while AbdulAziz Altine with the horse named Challatan won the Governor’s Cup (Sudanese open) with N500,000 cash prize.
Other winners were Kamal Ahmad Maiturare owner of the horse named Golden Eagle who won Boss Mustapha Cup (Taloun Kano da Kewaye) with N500,000 cash prize, Etsu Nupe with horse named CR7 won Emir of Zazzau Cup (Taloun open) just as Shino with his horse named Hitler won Late Galadima Cup (Dawakin Barga) with cash prize of N250,000.
