Human Development Initiatives (HDI) has yesterday called for the inclusion of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), School Base Management Committees (SBMCs) as well as other relevant bodies in the formulation of Universal Basic Education (UBE) action plan for effective monitoring and evaluation of UBE matching grants in Kano state.

The call was made by HDI research and monitoring officer Mr. Olayemi Samuel during a community sensitization training on 2016 Kano State Universal Basic Education Board’s (SUBEB) action plan. According to him, the state has been consistent in payment of its counter fund when compare to many states in the federation lwho had failed in doing so adding that for effective utilization of such funds there is a serious need to include other relevant stakeholders while drawing action plans.

He further stated that, the training of the community has become necessary as it was observed that, there was a low level of awareness of community stakeholders about the contents of the state action plan and that the training will provide the participant with an  in-depth knowledge of what the action plan entails.

In his remarks, Dr. Nura Haladu of Grassroots Health Organisation of Nigeria (GHON) revealed that, the low level of knowledge on the UBE matching grant to states has been a major issue that the training wanted to address through enhancing the participant’s knowledge on the basic information they need to know on the grants and the role they ought to play in the grants utilization processes.
