A Kano State High Court sitting at Miller Road, Bompai presided over by Justice Halima Sulaiman has sentenced a house wife, Rukayya Abubakar, to life in imprisonment for killing her stepchild.

The prosecution counsel, Barrister Rabia Saad, informed the court that sometime in 2021, Rukayya threw her stepchild into a well, an action that led to his death.

According to Saad, the offence that the accused committed contravened Section 221 of Penal Code.

During the trial, the prosecution counsel presented four witnesses while the defence counsel, Barrister Rilwan Muhammad, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy as the convict is a mother with many children to take cater for.

Similarly, another housewife, Shamsiyya Ashiru Gabasawa, has been arraigned for killing her stepchild.

She was arraigned before a Kano State High Court for allegedly killing her stepchild.

The prosecution counsel, Barrister Lamido Sorondinki, informed the court that the defendant poisoned her stepchild, a baby boy Naziru Ashiru, leading to his death.

According to Sorondinki, the offence is contrary to Section 221 of Penal Code.

The defendant denied the allegation and the defence counsel, Barrister Samir Rabiu, applied for her bail.

 Justice Zuwaira Yusuf ordered that the defendant be remanded in correctional center and adjourned the case to March 5, for further mention.
