A real estate development company, M. N. Ataj Construction Ltd in partnership with Aventus Industries Limited, is set to float a world-class market on the exact location of the famous and historical Groundnut Pyramids in Kano.
Engr. Rabiu Sa’id a director with the company, said the economic significance of Kano dates back to the pre-colonial Africa when Kano city served as the southernmost point of the famous trans-Sahara trade routes with the groundnut pyramids serving as the focal point of business and economic activity of northern Nigeria.
This is one of the reasons, the company, in partnership with Aventus Industries Limited, decided to invest eight billion naira for the construction of Dalar-Gyada market which will take approximately twenty months to complete.
Reviving this pride of the north by turning this historic location into a world-class market like Dalar-Gyada, Engr Sa’id said the iniative would generate revenue internally for the government as well as improve the livelihood of the people of the state.
“For the fact that there is no other market as sophisticated and classy as Dalar-Gyada in Kano, this is a positive step in the right direction to encourage more economic activities and attract investment into the state. Developing a market of this scale with the state-of-the-art facilities and architecture, would generally boost the domestic and international economic growth of the state.”
Dalar-Gyada market is located at the heart of Kano city. It is strategically placed in the middle of all existing markets in the state.
Dalar-Gyada is just meters away from Kasuwar Kwari, Kasuwar Wambai, Kasuwar Kurmi, Kasuwar Singer, Sabon Gari Market and Hajj Camp.
Engr. Rabiu Sa’id said the proposed market would have more than 4,000 shops and over 100 blocks of open shops (4sqm), lock-up shops (9sqm), warehouses (50sqm) and banking halls (100sqm) respectively.
The design of the market enables shop owners and customers easy access and abundant parking spaces which is a major issue in all the existing markets in the state.
He said, “The selling price for the shops are: open shop 4sqm ground floor N1,050,000, open shop 4sqm first floor N735,000, lock-up shop 9sqm ground floor N5,244,750, lock-up shop 9sqm first floor N3,732,750, warehouse 50sqm first floor N29,137,500 and banking hall 100sqm ground floor N58,275,000.”
The mode of payment is very flexible so people would be able subscribe easily, saying for install-mental payment, an initial deposit of 30% is made upon subscription of any type of shop, subsequently 30%, 20% and 20% with three month intervals between each payment.
Engr Sa’id said the socio-economic benefits for Kano and its citizens under this project were enormous.
Dalar Gyada market will be the first ultra-modern market in Kano with state-of-the-art facilities that will boost the economy of the state and northern Nigeria in general.
