Abuja will come alive on February 28, as some of Africa’s most celebrated football icons converge on the nation’s capital for the maiden edition of ACFTA FEST 2026.

Legends scheduled for the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Speaking at the official launch of the event, former Super Eagles captain, Kanu Nwankwo, described the occasion as unique and deeply symbolic.

“The African Legends United gala match is going to be one of a kind, and why not? It’s happening right here in Nigeria,” Kanu said.

“The legends are going to come out, do what we know how to do best, perform, and everybody is going to enjoy it.”

Beyond entertainment, Kanu stressed that the festival is rooted in a broader mission to promote African identity and uplift grassroots development across the continent.

Confirming some of the star attractions, Kanu revealed that Jay-Jay Okocha will feature. Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo is also expected to play a key role in the Nigerian Legends squad.

In the same vein, former Cameroon international, Eyong Enoh, highlighted the wider vision of ACFTA FEST, noting that football is only the starting point.

“Football is just a kickstarter,” Enoh said. “This platform is about sports in general—basketball and other activities included.”
