Whereas the social sciences, humanities, law and arts are in all probability the hardest courses to get a distinction in, intellectually gifted and hardworking students easily get first class degrees in the physical and mathematical sciences, engineering and computer science.

However, an outstanding student, Faiza Ismaila Mohammed, at the University of Buckingham, UK, broke the jinx when she completed her undergraduate studies and obtained a first class in law.

In an article: “FCT girl shines at British university”, Haruna Izah said despite the many difficulties associated with the “study abroad experience”, “Faiza, a daughter of the Emir of Karshi, Abuja, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed, has done Nigeria proud.”

Faiza was said to have achieved the remarkable feat as a result of her parents’ support and encouragement. Three of her sisters obtained masters degrees from the same university.
