Veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has opened up on her relationship with fellow screen star Genevieve Nnaji.

She revealed that the once-close friendship between them gradually faded without any clear explanation.

Henshaw spoke during an appearance on the Tea With Tay podcast.

The comments add to earlier remarks made by Henshaw in 2023, when she first hinted at the strained nature of her relationship with Nnaji.

At the time, she said there were no major disagreements between them but disclosed that Genevieve often withdrew from people around her.

“Genevieve, we have had our issues but not big issues you know.

“I have loved her. You know sometimes she pulls away. She pulls away from everybody and you’re like, ‘Am I smelling”, she had said.

But during the podcast, she reflected on the distance that developed between both actresses after years of companionship within the Nigerian movie industry.

According to her, they once shared a strong bond and regularly attended events together before communication between them slowly diminished.

“We grew apart. We were close and we used to go to events together and then there was that gap.”

“I don’t know what happened, I don’t know what came over her but hey, I moved on”, she said.

The actress said she has since come to accept that relationships evolve with time, stressing that not every connection is meant to last forever.

Drawing from personal experience, Henshaw noted that different people play different roles in one’s life journey.

“I say this with hindsight: People are in your life for different reasons and seasons.

“Some are roots, some are branches, some are leaves. That’s how it is through life. Roots would always be roots”, she stated.

Nnaji, one of Nollywood’s most celebrated actresses, has largely stayed away from public appearances and social media activity in recent years.

In January 2022, the award-winning actress unfollowed everyone on Instagram and deleted all posts from her account, a development that sparked widespread speculation online.

The move fueled rumours about her mental health, although the actress later shared reflections on mental wellness in March 2022 without directly addressing the speculation surrounding her absence.
