The Katsina State Government has inaugurated a technical committee to review the proposed Light Rail Master Plan as part of efforts to modernise transportation and improve infrastructure across the state.

Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, inaugurated the committee in Katsina, describing the initiative as a step towards building an efficient and sustainable urban transport system.

Faskari said the proposed rail project is aimed at improving mobility, supporting economic growth and enhancing urban development in line with the state’s long-term development agenda.

The committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Works, Sani Magaji, and comprises representatives from key ministries, departments and agencies, including the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Urban and Regional Planning Board, State Transport Authority, Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning, and Ministry of Environment.

The SSG said the committee has been mandated to assess the technical and financial viability of the project and determine its compatibility with the Katsina State Development Master Plan (2025–2040).

He said members would also advise the government on the feasibility, sustainability and strategic importance of the proposed rail system.

Faskari urged the committee to carry out its assignment diligently, noting that the inauguration reflects the commitment of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda to developing a modern, connected and economically vibrant Katsina State.
