Kuwait Foundation, from the state of Kuwait, has donated a well built and furnished Islamic centre to Kafur and surrounding communities of Kafur Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The project is a waqf (charity) carried out by the foundation, built on a piece of land donated by Governor Aminu Bello Masari and comprises an Islamiyya school, a Jumu’at mosque and shops, meant to generate income for the running of the centre.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Kafur, Governor Masari said the centre would serve as a place of teaching and moral enrichment for the children of the benefiting communities.

He described illiteracy as a serious problem that has aggravated insecurity in the country, stressing that those who partake in killings and other forms of criminality do so due to poor knowledge of religious teachings.

“So long as you are a Muslim who believes in Allah and His prophet, this is your centre. The centre will help in teaching morals to our children and that will help in taming this problem of insecurity,” he said.

The governor, who handed over the keys of the centre to the leader of Izala in Katsina, Sheikh Yakubu Musa, tasked them to form a committee that will run the facility and ensure its sustainability.

Earlier in his remarks, the representative of the African Continent Committee, Sheikh Safakirukah Jumat, who represented the Kuwait Foundation, said the management of the centre would operate in line with the Islamic tenets and thanked Masari for donating the land for the building.
