Bagaruwa community of Mani local government area, Katsina state has got sigh of relief following commissioning of a solar powered borehole to alleviate the lingering water shortage affecting the area for many years.
The borehole was constructed by Nirek Nile Foundation at the cost of N12m as part of its corporate social responsibility.
Commissioning the project, Governor Aminu Bello Masari commended the donors, saying such project ought to have been provided by the host council but because of institutional failure, the challenge could not be surmounted by the local government.
He said the purpose of creating local governments was not to bring about the emergence of big men but to address the challenges of local communities.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Foundation, Dr Mohammed Ali Dan Hassan said Katsina state government had put in place necessary facilities for the achievement of goal six of the united Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which is clean water and sanitation to drive appropriate benefits to the citizens.
